The Essence of Japan
A Memorable Day in Chiba
Information
An Australian traveler finds the "true essence of Japan” in Chiba prefecture in this made-for-television story.
Steve is originally attracted to Tokyo, an ever-changing metropolis where traditional culture nonetheless still has a place. During one of his trips, a phone call from a former colleague leads him to visit her in Chiba, the prefecture just east of the capital. There, he finds an array of attractions he had never imagined.
A small old-style train passing through a carpet of rapeseed flowers is one of the scenes he stops to admire. Cherry blossoms cascading throughout a historic castle garden make up another, creating an indelible image in his mind. And a riverside town that maintains the atmosphere of the samurai era prompts him to reflect on the preservation of tradition despite the passage of time.
Soothing waters summon Steve to a hot spring, but once he gets there he discovers yet another unexpected aspect of the “true essence of Japan.”
The travelogue gives viewers a chance to join in the journey and feel the “real Japan" themselves.
