Laos is one of the least developed members of ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, but the economy is expanding rapidly with growth of over 7% a year and the prospects for further development are good. Geographically, too, Laos is located in the heart of Indochina and being regarded as a hub and corridor for regional East-West economic exchange.
he first Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers mission to Laos was sent there in 1965. Ever since, continuing support has been provided across wide-ranging fields from infrastructure to education, public health and cultural exchange. This program, which has been produced by the Laos National Television (LNTV), will trace this history of exchanges between Laos and Japan and introduce the shape of Laos today as the country now advances strongly in ASEAN.
