Information

"Sushi and Beyond" is an animated series based on the bestselling book "Sushi and Beyond". In 2007, food writer Michael Booth and his family set off for an extended stay in Japan to discover whether a Westerner could truly begin to understand the culture, myths and desires behind Japanese food. Booth’s book about their fascinating and funny journey through food-obsessed Japan, has turned into a 24-part animated series in 2015.

This program is a special edition of the animated TV series "Sushi and Beyond" ,based on the book by Michael Booth, about a family exploring and eating their way around Japan.
In this special edition,"Depachika" (a combination of "depato", meaning department store, and "chika", meaning basement) and "Sushi" is featured in both animation and documentary.

First episode, “An English Family Eats the Spring”
introduces a place called Depachika, the "utopia" of modern Japanese food culture, and how Japanese admire seasonal ingredients.

Second episode, “The Heart of a Sushi Chef”
covers how much professional sushi chefs spend time and effort on preparing Sushi before they are served.
