NHK WORLD/jibtv Meet DC Cherry Blossoms
NHK WORLD/jibtv made their premiere appearance in the Sakura Matsuri-Japanese Street Festival in Washington D.C. The event is part of the annual celebration surrounding the blooming of sakura trees, a gift from Japan in 1912. This year, it took place on April 13th. The festival is the largest one-day exhibition of Japanese culture in the United States.
As a media sponsor, NHK WORLD TV aired promotional announcements in the US for a month, with the cooperation of NHK Cosmomedia America. It also ran a booth that gave attendees a taste of being a news anchor. Many people availed themselves of the opportunity and posed for photos for NHK WORLD's Facebook page. Viewers in and around the capital can see NHK WORLD around the clock on the digital MHz Networks. Sixty-three percent of people who answered a survey at the booth said they watch. One fan even listed all the NEWSLINE anchors by name. NHK WORLD TV is available to 2.2 million households in the DC area.
