Established in 2009, the Japan Awards for Biodiversity honors organizations and individuals in Japan that have made exceptional contributions to preserving biodiversity and sustainable utilization of environmental resources. The program documents this year’s five awardees, their activities and the award ceremony held at the United Nations University this October.
The themes “sustainable use of biological resources” and “human’s coexistence with nature” have been garnering attention worldwide as an essential step to biodiversity conservation.

This series will highlight Ainu dance, modern art, crafts, and culture that has made its way overseas, as well as explore the Upopoy National Ainu Museum and Park that opened in 2020.
