10 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Tohoku region has been recovering. This summer, the “Tohoku House,” an event showcasing Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata, and Niigata Prefectures’ majestic scenery and local specialties was held with the aim of expressing gratitude towards the support received from overseas. A special website has been launched for people outside of Japan to get a glimpse of Tohoku’s charms.

The “Host Town” initiative is a project that aims for regional revitalization through cultural, economic, and athletic exchange between residents of countries and regions participating in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Honjo City in Saitama Prefecture is the host town of Turkey’s Para Taekwondo National Team, and will host them for pre-games training camp. This segment features the city’s activities such as holding a blind soccer class experience for local children in aims to achieve an inclusive society where both people with and without disabilities support each other.

Together with park rangers, our reporter explores various spots in and around the mountain such as Ogamiyama Shrine, the lush beech forest, and takes a look at people’s efforts to protect the natural landscape in the national park.
