Episode 2: Rice Snacks

Japanese Rice-Based Snacks, BEIKA

Besides being one of the main ingredients of the Japanese diet, rice continues to evolve into other forms of food. Among them are traditional Japanese snacks, or OKASHI. For hundreds of years, many different types of OKASHI are made with rice, including MOCHI-OKASHI that uses cooked rice known as SUAMA as well as SENBEI, which uses rice to bake flat snacks. This segment introduces you to various OKASHI, from traditional snacks to more recent, western-style snacks.
