The nature of materials plays an important role in the development of industrial products. Today, materials development is not only about quality, but also about how to reduce the environmental impact of the manufacturing process. Until now, manufacturers have had to rely on intuition and experience through repeated trial and error, but a method called "Materials Informatics"(MI) , which makes full use of AI, has begun to be put into practice. Hitachi High-Tech, which introduced MI, is now able to recommend appropriate mixing ratios to customers. The manufacturer has been able to reduce the time of tests, which has led to a reduction in CO2 emissions and waste.
J-FOOD
In Niigata Prefecture, there are many restaurants and eateries that make the most of their prime location, such as rice ball vendors near rice paddies and a sushi restaurant that uses wild vegetables. The prefecture has also begun to focus on gastro-tourism to encourage people to experience Niigata's climate through food. In March, the first Niigata Gastronomy Awards were announced, recognizing restaurants and other foods that use local ingredients. This program conveys Niigata's food climate and passion of the people behind it all.
J-TRIP
As the Expo 2025 Osaka draws near, a travel tour with sustainability as its theme is being developed. This SDGs tour will visit agricultural and fishery industries around Senshu in Osaka, an area which boasts an abundance of gourmet food. This segment follows participants trying out the tour prior to its launch, and the efforts of people in Senshu to convey the charms of its food within Japan and overseas.
J-NATURE
In this segment, we’ll visit Keramashoto National Park, made up of around 30 islands located about 40 kilometers west of Okinawa’s main island. This time we explore Tokashiki-jima island, Aka-jima island, and Zamami-jima island.
