New Technologies & Opportunities with SDGs

The Challenge of a Japanese Aluminum Company

Aired: September 9, 2022 (UTC)

Information

Countries and corporations around the world are currently working to implement various measures to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
Toyo Aluminum, a major aluminum manufacturer in Japan, is working to create technology to aid in achieving the SDGs.
This is also since surviving in the current market environment with price competition from China and other countries would be difficult if they were only making aluminum products.

The “cutting-edge technology department” utilizes their years of aluminum processing expertise as a base to create new materials and products aimed at helping to achieve the SDGs.
One example is the development of next-generation low-cost, high-efficiency power-generating semiconductors.
Another example is a method of collecting tritium from nuclear power plants.
Yet another is the development of a film that can reduce food waste by preventing oxidation.

This program will focus on the SDGs and the people working in research and development and the challenges they face every day, creating new materials and products in order to stay competitive.
